Jenssen Pharmaceuticals Lawsuits

Posted on February 13, 2016

Jensson Pharmaceuticals is a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceutical Research and Development. Headquartered in Belgium, the company manufactures a wide array of medications to treat everything from acid reflux disease to birth control and epilepsy.

Legal Troubles for Jenssen Pharmaceuticals

Jenssen Pharmaceuticals is no stranger to controversies, lawsuits, and other legal actions. The company is currently facing claims that its widely prescribed blood clot medication Xarelto (rivaroxaban) can cause severe injury and even death from excessive bleeding. Unlike warfarin, Xarelto’s competitor, there is no know antidote for excessive hemorrhaging caused by Xarelto.

Wait, there’s more. In 2013, Jenssen Pharmaceuticals’ parent company Johnson & Johnson was ordered by the U.S. government to pay $2.2 billion to settle claims that the company and its subsidiaries promoted powerful psychiatric medications for uses not approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The company also was found to offer monetary kickbacks to doctors who prescribed their medications frequently. The case currently stands as the largest healthcare fraud settlement in U.S. history. Claims involved two Jenssen Pharmaceuticals products, the antipsychotic drugs Risperdal and Invega. The U.S. government has also joined a  whistle blower lawsuit alleging bribes paid to Omnicare, the largest company supplying pharmaceutical drugs to American nursing homes.
