Meet Paul Rathke

As an attorney at the newly opened Farah & Farah Greenville office, Paul Rathke brings decades of legal experience, sharp strategic insight, and a deep commitment to client advocacy to the firm’s growing presence in South Carolina. With a career spanning both defense and plaintiff work, Paul understands personal injury and workers’ compensation matters from every angle. His leadership at the Greenville office reflects the firm’s dedication to expanding access to justice for individuals and families across the state. Paul’s approach combines litigation skill, thoughtful case strategy, and a genuine drive to help people through life’s most difficult moments.

Discovering a New Path to the Law

I didn’t set out to become a lawyer. My journey began in computer science, then finance and management, before I eventually found my way to the law. After working in business, I saw many of my friends taking the LSAT and decided to do the same. I discovered I had a natural aptitude for it, and that decision ultimately shaped my career.

I completed my undergraduate studies in Finance and Management at the University of South Carolina and then earned my law degree from the University of Georgia School of Law. I started my legal career on the defense side of personal injury, working in product liability and auto defense. But as the industry moved toward computerized settlement determinations, I realized that wasn’t the kind of law I wanted to practice. I transitioned to plaintiff work so I could advocate directly for real people facing real problems—expanding my practice to include workers’ compensation alongside personal injury.

Joining the Farah & Farah Family

Farah & Farah is the third plaintiff firm I’ve worked for. When the firm reached out, I was ready for a place where I could bring my experience and continue to grow. It’s the largest firm I’ve ever joined, but the warm, welcoming environment made it an easy transition. I don’t shy away from litigation, and I thrive in a team that values strong advocacy.

A Broad Legal Background To Support Clients

Drawing on experience that spans both personal injury and workers’ compensation, I support clients facing a wide range of challenges—from navigating medical treatment and wage benefits to handling complex return-to-work and employer-carrier issues. My background on both the defense and plaintiff sides gives me insight into how these systems operate, allowing me to anticipate obstacles and guide clients toward outcomes that protect their health, financial stability, and future.

Bringing Experience and Leadership

Over the years, I’ve handled complex cases that required both strategy and determination. One significant case involved a falling merchandise incident at a national retailer. Another major case that stands out in my career was a product liability case involving a defect in a safety feature for industrial machinery.

My client, an employee at a recycling plant, suffered severe second- and third-degree burns when molten polyester struck his face due to a faulty safety feature. Recovery required months of pain, procedures, and the wearing of medical facial garments nearly 24 hours a day. The case ultimately turned on proving that a safer design existed, which I established through deposition testimony from the machine’s original designer.

Fighting for Clients With Strategy and Heart

What keeps me passionate about this field is its constant challenge. No two cases are the same. Each client comes to us in a difficult moment, and being the person they can turn to matters deeply to me. I’ve always been able to see cases from different perspectives. That skill helps me identify weaknesses in the other side’s arguments and build stronger strategies for my clients.

My federal court experience and years in both defense and plaintiff work give me a unique perspective across personal injury law. I understand how the other side thinks, and that helps me stay one step ahead.

Why This Work Matters

Every case represents a person who needs help. That’s why I chose to leave behind corporate defense work and commit myself to representing injured people. This field keeps me challenged, sharp, and inspired. Most importantly, it allows me to stand beside people when they need it most, and that’s something I take great pride in every single day.

Finding Balance Beyond the Courtroom

When I’m not working, you’ll most likely find me outside. I love sailing and earned my Skipper’s certificate years ago. These days, when I do sail, it’s typically off the coasts of Hilton Head or Georgetown. I also enjoy participating in local chili cook-offs and spending weekends with my family and friends.

I’m a third-generation Pittsburgh Steelers fan, and I bring that same sense of loyalty and work ethic to my practice. I also support advocacy through the South Carolina Association for Justice (SCAJ), participating in causes that make a meaningful impact in our community.
