John Marcus is a Florida premises liability attorney at Farah and Farah, working out of our offices in downtown Jacksonville. Having built a solid reputation as he worked his way up through the public defender’s office over a long and storied career, John has showcased both a passion for service as well as incredible prowess in the courtroom. John uses this vast experience to help those harmed as a result of another’s negligence seek the maximum recovery available under the law.

From Intern to Management: It’s All About Perseverance

Starting in law school, I did what many lawyers do and gained experience working as an intern in the Public Defender’s Office. However, unlike others, I decided to stay in that office because I saw how much good I could do for people who truly needed my help.

Over many years and over 60 trials, I climbed the ranks from certified legal intern all the way to Chief Assistant Public Defender. I enjoyed protecting individuals’ constitutional rights and serving my community. A focal point in my career was being responsible for teaching trial skills and techniques to attorneys throughout the office.

The work we do here at Farah & Farah is very similar. Here, we serve our community by advocating for injured individuals who truly need our help. My time as a Public Defender gave me the experience and confidence needed to be a zealous advocate for our clients.

Being an Advocate Is Powerful

What really excites me about being a premises liability attorney is that we are helping individuals who are truly harmed. Often their physical and financial well-being is put in serious jeopardy, all because someone else was negligent. Being an advocate for those who can’t advocate for themselves is powerful. I’ve had a tremendous opportunity in my life to speak for those who can’t speak for themselves – and I take the responsibility as their attorney seriously.

Teaching Newer Attorneys the Skills To Win

In all of my experience, from trying scores of favorable cases to being recognized with advocacy awards and leading entire teams of attorneys, some of my proudest moments have been teaching new attorneys the ability to litigate cases. Seeing them win cases for clients in need using the skills I taught them has been one of the most rewarding aspects of my entire career.

My Clients Are Active Participants in Their Cases

Similarly, I love that Farah & Farah utilizes a total team approach. We rely on one another and lean on each other’s strengths and abilities so that we’re a combined force for good. That approach is incredibly powerful and helps us give our clients our best efforts every day. I make maintaining client contact an absolute priority because our clients are active participants in their cases. We’re a team together, not just as attorneys and legal professionals, but with our clients as well.

My Family and I Call Jacksonville Home Too

Outside of my legal work, I enjoy hunting and fishing and generally being outside in the beautiful natural surroundings we’re afforded here in Florida. Around town, you’ll likely find me and my wife, Ana, and our son, John Patrick, enjoying local gems like Julington Creek Fish Camp or taking our red standard poodle, Ellie, for walks among the beautiful oaks at any one of the many parks we have in Mandarin.
