Meet Barrington Irving

Barrington Irving is a personal injury attorney in Farah & Farah’s Fort Myers office who believes the best legal representation begins with a genuine human connection. Having experienced firsthand how an injury can affect every aspect of a person’s life, he understands that clients often need more than legal guidance. Barrington combines his background as a prosecutor with years of personal injury litigation to advocate for people with compassion, honesty, and a deep commitment to helping them move forward.

How a Childhood Car Accident Inspired Me To Become a Personal Injury Attorney

I knew I wanted to become a lawyer long before I understood everything the profession involved. When I was a child, my family was involved in an accident after our vehicle was struck by a police car. My left knee was broken as a result of the crash. My family pursued a case against the officers due to my injury and the extensive care that was needed to help me recover from it. I still remember sitting in a courthouse, answering questions while someone carefully recorded every word I said. That experience really impacted me.

The case eventually settled, and the recovery was placed into a trust that I couldn’t access until I was an adult. Years later, that money helped me purchase my first car so I could get back and forth to classes during college. More importantly, it showed me how much one legal outcome could influence someone’s future. I remember telling my mom that I wanted to become a lawyer because I wanted to do for other families what someone had done for mine.

Paying Forward the Opportunities Others Gave Me

Growing up, I watched my parents work hard to create opportunities they never had themselves. They immigrated from Jamaica, and neither had the chance to attend college. Becoming the first person in my family to earn a college degree was possible because people invested in my future, including a scholarship through a program created by Orlando philanthropist Harrison Rosen for students from disadvantaged neighborhoods. Their belief in me showed me how a single opportunity can change the course of someone’s life, and it shaped the kind of lawyer I wanted to become.

Finding My Calling in the Pursuit of Justice

Early in my career, I became a prosecutor because I believed deeply in fairness. I wanted to pursue justice without regard to someone’s background, race, or circumstances, and I found tremendous purpose in advocating for victims whose lives had been disrupted by crime. Over time, however, I realized that my own experiences naturally drew me toward personal injury law. Having lived through a serious accident myself, I understood what it felt like when everyday life is suddenly interrupted, and I knew I wanted to help people regain stability after an accident.

Why Helping Injury Victims Became My Calling

When I transitioned into personal injury law, it felt like a natural extension of everything that had led me there. My own experiences had shown me how quickly a car accident can change the direction of someone’s life, and my time as a prosecutor reinforced how important it is for people to have someone standing beside them when they are facing difficult circumstances. Personal injury law gave me the opportunity to combine those experiences in a way that felt deeply meaningful.

One case that has stayed with me involved an older client who was seriously injured in a motor vehicle accident and ultimately had to move out of state to live with family while recovering. Reaching a successful outcome meant more than securing compensation. It gave him and his family the financial support they needed during an incredibly difficult transition. Moments like that remind me that every case represents a real person whose future has been affected, and being a part of helping them rebuild their lives is what makes this work so rewarding.

Building Trust Through Compassion and Communication

If there is one quality that defines how I practice law, I hope it is the ability to make people feel comfortable. Throughout my life, friends, family, and clients have all told me that after talking with me, they feel more at ease. I never take that for granted because trust is the foundation of every attorney-client relationship.

I want every client to know they are working with someone who will be honest, approachable, and fully committed to their case. My goal is not only to help clients understand the legal process but also to give them confidence that they have someone in their corner from beginning to end.

Combining Strategy With Advocacy To Protect the Injured

Every case presents its own challenges, and I enjoy the process of developing thoughtful legal strategies that help my clients achieve the best possible outcome. Whether preparing for trial, negotiating with an insurance company, or evaluating the strengths of a case, I believe that careful preparation and persistence make a meaningful difference.

Some of the cases I am most proud of involved overcoming obstacles that caused others to doubt the outcome. Early trial victories, meaningful settlements, and the gratitude clients have shown after difficult cases have all reinforced that success comes from combining strong advocacy with a genuine commitment to the people I represent. Every positive result reminds me why I chose this profession in the first place.

Finding a Firm That Values People First

Joining Farah & Farah reinforced something I’ve always believed. People matter. From the beginning, I noticed that the firm took the time to get to know me as a person, not just as an attorney. That may seem like a small thing, but it spoke volumes about the firm’s culture and the value it places on relationships.

That same philosophy extends to the way we serve our clients. I believe every person who walks through our doors deserves to feel heard, respected, and supported throughout the legal process. When clients tell me they feel heard and know someone is looking out for them, I know we’re accomplishing something that goes beyond the legal work itself.

Family and Leaving the World Better Than I Found It

Outside the office, I enjoy spending time with my family. We especially love to relax anywhere near the water. My children always keep life entertaining and remind me every day why I work so hard to build a better future. Whether I’m spending a day at the beach or enjoying a quiet river, those moments remind me how grateful I am for the opportunities I’ve been given.

That sense of gratitude carries into everything I do. Giving back has always been important to me, whether it’s volunteering in my community or helping someone through a difficult chapter in life. My parents taught me the importance of kindness, hard work, and serving others, and I hope to leave every person I meet a little better than I found them.
