Alicia Carter is a premises liability attorney at Farah & Farah’s Jacksonville office who dedicates her work to advocating for individuals and families harmed by preventable negligence. Prior to becoming an attorney, Alicia spent years working in the insurance industry, handling claims involving dangerous property conditions and complex liability disputes. That experience gave her firsthand insight into how insurance companies investigate, evaluate, and defend claims behind the scenes, which she now uses to build strong cases and advocate strategically for injured individuals and families.
How Advocacy First Pulled Me Toward the Law
I did not initially plan on becoming an attorney, but I realized early how strongly I felt about advocating for other people and speaking up when something felt unfair. During a campus election at Florida State, a close friend of mine was treated unfairly, and I couldn’t sit back without getting involved. That experience ultimately led me to help start a new student organization and made me realize that I was drawn to problem-solving in situations where fairness mattered. It also inspired me to pursue dual degrees in criminal justice and anthropology, which shaped the way I understand people, circumstances, and the broader impact life experiences can have on an individual’s path.
Building My Foundation Through Public Service and Insurance Work
After college, I worked in a regulatory role for the State of Florida, handling appeal packages for first-time offenders seeking reinstatement of their professional licenses. That experience reinforced my interest in helping people navigate systems that can often feel intimidating, rigid, and difficult to understand.
From there, I worked full-time through law school as an insurance adjuster handling claims involving dangerous property conditions. This taught me discipline, sharpened my analytical skills, and gave me valuable insight into how claims are investigated, evaluated, and defended behind the scenes. Because I understand how insurance carriers determine liability exposure and frame claims from the outset, I’m able to identify issues early and approach cases more strategically.
Combining Strategy With Advocacy To Protect the Injured
Representing people who were hurt on someone else’s property is the focus of my practice. I’m drawn to premises liability work because it combines thoughtful legal analysis with a practical client-centered approach that helps individuals better understand their situation and pursue the compensation they deserve.
During my years working for insurance carriers, I saw firsthand how the volume and complexity of claims can sometimes reduce a person’s experience to just a file number. That experience shaped the way I approach my practice today. I believe every case involves individuals navigating difficult and often life-changing circumstances, and I strive to approach each matter with strategic insight, thorough analysis, and strong advocacy.
The Moment That Clarified Where I Needed To Be
One case that has stayed with me involved a young child who suffered serious injuries following a dog attack. Watching the insurance evaluation focus almost entirely on rigid metrics was deeply frustrating because it failed to fully recognize the human impact the incident had on the child and their family.
That experience became one of the defining moments that reinforced my commitment to advocating for people harmed by preventable negligence. It reminded me that behind every claim is a real person whose life may have been permanently changed by someone else’s failure to act responsibly. I believe the outcome of a case should reflect the true impact that carelessness can have on an individual and their family.
Finding the Right Fit at Farah & Farah
I’m grateful to be part of the team at Farah & Farah. The firm’s collaborative environment and strong culture of support allow me to focus deeply on my cases while continuing to grow as an attorney.
What I enjoy most is the investigative nature of the work and the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with clients throughout the legal process. Getting to know the person behind each case is a constant reminder that every claim represents someone whose life has been impacted in a very real way. That connection motivates me to fight even more passionately for the people I represent and reinforces why I became an attorney in the first place.
Family, Writing, and Giving Back
Outside of work, I recharge by spending time with my family, traveling, and writing. I’ve written and published children’s books inspired by personal family experiences and a passion for helping others navigate life’s challenges with compassion and understanding.
I also enjoy giving back through community involvement, including volunteering with LifeNet for Families to provide meals and hygiene supplies to displaced individuals, and advocating for families of children with autism to help connect them with meaningful support and resources.
