What are the Most Dangerous Highways in Florida?
Based on fatality data gathered by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for the years 2016-2019, four of the ten most dangerous highways in the U.S. are located in Florida.Â
Which one topped the list as the most dangerous highway in the nation? That would be Interstate 4, which runs across the Sunshine State’s midsection from Tampa to Daytona Beach and suffers 1.1 deaths per mile of highway. The Orlando stretch of I-4 is particularly dangerous, with 11 fatalities from 2016 to 2019. Â
The other three Floridian highways in the Top 10 most dangerous highways in the U.S. are:
- U.S. 192 (0.9 deaths per mile of highway)
- U.S. 92 (0.7 deaths per mile of highway)
- Interstate 95 (0.6 deaths per mile of highway)

What are the Most Dangerous Roadways in Georgia?
Similar to Florida, Georgia attracts many looking for adventure. And, unfortunately, its roadways are especially dangerous as well. As drivers take to the highways to experience Georgia’s rich history, attend music festivals, and see its picturesque main streets, caution is too often forgotten.
The Georgia Department of Transportation reports that over 1,000 traffic accidents happen throughout the state daily, with an estimated 31 people dying each week. Of the 1,730 fatal collisions in 2020, more than 13% were caused by distracted driving, poor driving, or driving under the influence.
Stretching from Miami Lakes to Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, Interstate 75 is at its worst as it passes through Atlanta. That portion is one of the most dangerous highways in the nation, experiencing 0.521 deaths per mile of highway. Between 2016 and 2019, that segment had 930 deaths in 1,786 miles of highway. The most common forms of harmful crashes include moving vehicle accidents, pedestrian accidents, and guardrail accidents. In fact, Georgia saw a 77% increase in pedestrian accidents from 2020 to 2021, with 182 pedestrians dying in just the first six months of the year. In Atlanta specifically, there were 29 reported pedestrians dead in 2021 – doubling the total of 2020.
Traffic fatalities killed at least 52 people in Atlanta alone. And even cities other than the state capital experience a significant number of injuries and fatalities. Savannah saw nearly 2,400 fatal car accidents on dangerous roadways, with the three most dangerous roads in Savannah being I-516, Abercorn Street, and I-95.
