BlendJet Facing Lawsuits Over Portable Blender Injuries

BlendJet, usually known for its portable blenders, has been in the headlines lately for its recall of certain Blendjet 2 Portable Blender models. These models were recalled because of malfunctions that caused them to injure users when the blades broke off and, in some cases, catch on fire due to the base overheating. Blendjet is now facing lawsuits because of the serious injuries that resulted from the defective blenders.

If you or a loved one has been injured from using one of the recalled BlendJet portable blenders, don’t hesitate to contact Farah & Farah. You deserve someone on your side who can help you

Which BlendJet 2 Portable Blenders Were Recalled?

The recall has affected any model of BlendJet 2 portable blender with a serial number ending with the last four digits between 5201 and 5542. These blenders were sold between October 2020 and November 2023 at major retailers across the United States and Canada, including Walmart, Costco, Target, and online retailers.

Whether your blender has already malfunctioned or not, if the serial number lies within that range, it’s important to return your blender anyway. The risk of a future malfunction and the serious injuries that can happen as a result is too great.

How To Return a Recalled BlendJet Blender

BlendJet voluntarily issued the recall and has included instructions on how to replace the recalled Blendjet 2 blenders on their website. First, you’ll need to verify that your blender’s serial number is on the list of recalled blenders. If your blender is on the recall list, then BlendJet will send a replacement base and lid. Users with recalled blenders will need to hold onto the jar part of the blender for use with the new parts.

Why Were the BlendJet Blenders Recalled?

In 2023, BlendJet initiated a recall of some of its portable blender models after receiving numerous reports of malfunctions. Consumers complained of overheating issues, with several incidents leading to battery explosions or fires. Some users also reported that the blades spun unexpectedly, causing cuts and injuries when opening the blender. These reports raised serious questions about the safety of the devices, leading the company to take corrective action by pulling affected models off the market.

While BlendJet made efforts to address the issue by offering free replacements or refunds for recalled units, this was not enough to calm the storm brewing among consumers. Many had already suffered injuries or property damage by the time the recall was announced.

Injuries From the Blender Malfunctions

Consumers sustained a variety of injuries from the BlendJet 2 portable blenders that were part of the recall. The most commonly reported injuries were burns from the base overheating and catching fire and lacerations from the blender’s blades moving unexpectedly during use or cleaning.

Property Damage

The fires caused by the base of the blender overheating also caused some property damage. Claims amounted to around $150,000 worth of property damage. These hazards, combined with numerous incidents of malfunctioning devices, led to the recall of nearly 5 million units.

BlendJet Facing Lawsuits Over Portable Blender Recall

Several users who experienced injuries or losses have since filed lawsuits against BlendJet, claiming that the company failed to ensure product safety before launching the blenders. The lawsuits accuse the company of negligence in their manufacturing process and insufficient testing of the devices, especially concerning the safety of the rechargeable batteries. Other plaintiffs point to a lack of adequate warning labels that could have informed consumers about the potential risks of overheating or blade malfunction.

The lawsuits also highlight that the product’s marketing may have misled consumers into thinking it was safe for daily use, particularly since the blenders are advertised for their convenience and portability.

What Should You Do If You’ve Been Injured by a Recalled BlendJet Blender?

The first step if you’ve been injured by a defective BlendJet blender is to seek medical attention to treat any lacerations or burns you may have sustained as a result of the blender malfunction. Keep any medical records and document the damage from the blender if possible. Photographic evidence may be needed both in returning the blender for a replacement and for qualifying for a lawsuit against BlendJet.

Speak to a Defective Products Attorney

Simply getting a refund or a replacement for the defective blender may not be enough. If you have been injured or your property damaged, there are additional costs that BlendJet should be held responsible for, such as repairs and your medical bills. An experienced defective products attorney can help you navigate the complexities not just of dealing with the recall and your medical expenses but also with a lawsuit against the company that failed to adequately inspect their products or warn consumers of the risk.
