In the event of a fatal bus accident, investigators must determine how the crash could have been prevented. There are many potential causes of bus accidents and all potential factors should be considered. Common causes of Florida bus accidents include:
- Negligent car drivers: Car drivers are often responsible for bus accidents by speeding, driving while distracted or failing to yield the right of way.
- Careless bus drivers: Bus drivers who are inexperienced may make mistakes that lead to devastating accidents. Even experienced bus drivers can cause a crash if they fail to look before changing lanes or turning, are distracted by a passenger or decide to travel at an unsafe speed.
- Negligent bus companies: It is vital that the brakes and tires of a bus are in proper working order. Bus companies that fail to regularly monitor, assess, repair and maintain their vehicles can be held accountable for their actions.
The person or company responsible for a Florida bus accident can be held financially liable for their actions. When someone is killed, his or her family can file a wrongful death claim to receive money for funeral costs, lost future wages, pain and suffering, loss of companionship and other losses. When a bus passenger is injured, he or she can file a claim to receive support for medical bills, time away from work and other financial and emotional losses that result from the crash.
