With over two decades of high-level courtroom experience, Aaron Metcalf is a Jacksonville personal injury attorney who fights for the rights of his injured clients with competence and quiet confidence. Aaron makes connections with clients by being a calm but authoritative voice when the legal system feels chaotic and confusing.
After a successful career in a solo law firm, Aaron is excited to join the legal team at Farah & Farah’s Jacksonville office for the opportunity to put his experience and skills to work for the firm’s clients.
Aaron is dedicated to improving the lives and opportunities of his clients. As he says, “the legal system can seem extremely complex and intimidating. I really enjoy the process of figuring out all the little details of how the law and the facts fit together in a particular case. It is very gratifying when I can put that puzzle together in a way that makes sense for the clients and helps them achieve their best possible outcome.”
Life-Changing Results
In the world of personal injury, clients are often going through hardship and need someone they can put their trust in. I recently handled a very challenging case where my clients’ son was killed when his car was hit by a tractor-trailer. The truck driver was the only witness to the crash, and he claimed that the crash was all my clients’ son’s fault. The Florida Highway Patrol investigated the crash and agreed that my clients’ son caused the crash. The sense that everyone was blaming their son made my clients’ grief over the loss of their son exponentially worse. I needed to do everything in my power to give my clients closure about what really happened that night. After countless hours going through the photographs and physical evidence, I was convinced the crash was caused by the truck driver’s negligence. With the help of some talented expert witnesses, I was able to prove that the truck driver wasn’t paying attention and should have avoided the crash. The evidence we developed even convinced the FHP officers to change their opinions. After that, we were able to settle the case for a significant sum.
The settlement gave my clients closure they could not have gotten any other way and vindicated their belief in their son. They told me afterward that although they still suffered from tremendous grief, our work helped them move forward with the healing process. This case truly reminded me that the final settlements are not just numbers, but that these results can make a profound impact on the lives of others.
Another case I worked on that comes to mind involved a young man who lost the use of his arm because of injuries he suffered in a motorcycle crash. The client had always been a dedicated and hard worker, but his injuries left him unable to find a construction job, which was the only kind of work he had ever done, and unable to fish, which was his favorite thing to do when he wasn’t working. The client could deal with the physical loss of his arm, but not the loss of purpose in his life. We focused on the client’s goals: getting trained to earn money in a new line of work and being able to fish with only one good arm. We won a multi-million verdict at trial, and the client was able to further his education and purchase assistive devices to help him enjoy fishing again. It’s instances like these that truly illustrate how much injuries can affect the livelihood of people, and how appreciative many of them are to get the help they deserve after losing work opportunities and overall quality of life.
Immersion in the Courtroom
I believe that the key to being effective in the courtroom is being prepared. That means knowing the law, knowing the facts, and taking the time to consider each case from different perspectives. My natural curiosity and desire to truly get to the bottom of things helps me figure out the best way to present my client’s case, anticipate the opponent’s moves, and be ready to tackle the unexpected. I commit myself to giving my clients the best chance for success.
A Championship Mentality
I have competed in racquetball at a high level since I was a teenager. Over the years, I have won nine national championships and dozens of state and regional titles. Those successes came from lots of hard work, a strong competitive drive, and a commitment to being as good as I could be. I’m the same way when it comes to my clients. They deserve the best I can give them.
Down Time
I spend about an hour each morning walking my two hounds. It’s a relaxing way to tune out the distractions and just be in the moment.
I love sports. My wife and I have been Jaguars season ticket holders since their first season, and we try to never miss a game. I also follow the sports teams of my alma mater, the University of Florida (go Gators!), and I am a lifelong fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, my dad’s hometown team.
