Just in Time for Christmas: The 10 Most Dangerous Toys

Posted on December 14, 2017

The group, World Against Toys Causing Harm (WATCH), has a warning for you this holiday season – watch out for the most dangerous toys, especially those you buy online.

WATCH has issued a top ten list for this holiday season. Sales this time of year typically amount to about 65% of toy sales for the entire year, reports Consumer Affairs.

According to WATCH, there have been at least 15 recalls of dangerous toys in the last year and many of the problems, such as small parts and inadequate warnings, continue to be present in this year’;s crop of toys.

In announcing the “10 Worst Toys” for the 2017 holiday season, the group said parents need to know which traps to avoid.

Top 10 Worst Toys List for 2017

Top on the list – Hand Fidget Spinners, which are supposed to quiet anxious hands, have small loose parts that can be a choking hazard. If that were not enough, some also contain levels of lead.

Also on the list —  Mattel’s Wonder Woman sword which presents the potential of blunt force injury.

Completing the Top Ten List — Hallmark “Itty Bittys” Baby Stacking Toy. Why this toy is still on the market after it faced a government recall four months ago is a mystery. Both the fabric hat and toys can be detached from it and represent a choking hazard.

If your child has been injured by one of their holiday toys, the personal injury attorneys at Farah & Farah can help.

Pull Along Polly has a 19-inch cord, which is about seven-inches too long and is a strangulation hazard.

Spider-Man Spider-Drone Official Movie Edition launches a drone with rotating blades that could cut a child.

Nerf Zombie Strike Deadbolt Crossbow presents a clear risk of injuries to the eye or face.

Slackers Slackline Classic Series Kit poses a risk of strangulation and injuries.

Oval Xylophone contains a 9.5 inches drumstick which can block a child’s airway.

A child can easily remove the clothing and ponytail holder on Brianna Baby Doll and WATCH says that poses a choking hazard.  Jetts Heel Wheels sets off real sparks on these roller skates posing a burn risk.

WATCH does not test the toys, but monitors the 254-thousand toy-related injuries reported to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Since half of purchases of toys are made online, WATCH says consumers need to be savvy about those which have been recalled or contain incomplete product information.
