Florida is the Worst State to Get in a Car Accident

Posted on January 19, 2015

A recent study by WalletHub shows that Florida is the worst state in the country to get into a traffic accident because of the number of uninsured drivers and the number of drivers with inadequate insurance coverage. If you are ever involved in an accident, hopefully you will be able to receive the financial support you need to cover your medical bills, lost wages, the cost of rehabilitation and other related damages.

If, however, the person responsible for the crash has no auto insurance coverage or not enough coverage, you may not be able to get the support you need. WalletHub reviewed the insurance requirements for each state and the number of uninsured motorists and found that Florida is worst state, apparently, for anyone to get into an accident.

For example, the insurance requirements in Florida are lower than in most states. You currently only need $10,000 personal injury protection and $10,000 property damage liability. If you have ever been injured in a crash, you know that $10,000 in coverage doesn’;t even begin to cover the cost of your medical bills and auto repairs.

Furthermore, the study found that 23.8 percent of Florida drivers have no insurance at all. This means that victims of Florida car accidents often do not have an opportunity to file an insurance claim against the at-fault driver to get the support they need. In such cases, motorists either have to file a civil lawsuit against the negligent driver in court or pursue support through their own uninsured motorist coverage.

Therefore, it is advisable to protect yourself by purchasing more auto insurance than required by law. If possible, buy well over the required minimum amount of insurance and buy uninsured motorist coverage in case you are hurt by a driver who has no coverage at all. If an uninsured or underinsured motorist injures you, do not hesitate to research your rights and options. A skilled Florida personal injury attorney will fight to get you fair compensation for all of the pain and suffering you have endured.
