Samsung’s Newest Phone Burns Seven Year Old Boy
In case you hadn’t heard, the batteries of Samsung’s Galaxy Note 7’s have been exploding. The phone was just introduced last month, and so far, at least two dozen episodes of Galaxy Note 7s catching on fire have been reported. Most recently, a seven year old boy was treated for burns when the battery on his grandmother’s phone exploded while he was using it to watch videos.
Samsung has voluntarily issued a recall of the model and the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is urging owners of the phone to stop using them, immediately. In addition, airlines are now ordering owners of the phones to turn them off during flights.
Like e-cigarettes and self balancing scooters (so called “hoverboards”), the Galaxy Note 7 is the latest modern device who’s lithium-ion batteries are known to burst into flame. The seven year old’s grandmother has reported that the explosion was large enough to set off alarms in her house, and that the boy was traumatized to the degree that he is now afraid of all phones.
