Real Scares for Horror Cruisers

Posted on November 4, 2014

In a harrowing turn of events on Friday night, a Celebration Cruise Liner entitled the – Halloween Horror Cruise – struck an unknown object in the waters off the Coast of Grand Bahamas Island, leaving the craft dead in the water. Immediately following the collision, the ship quickly lost power, leaving passengers in a pitch black and slowly titling vessel. Many witnesses assumed it was all part of the act, but quickly discovered that the darkened hallways and repeated evacuation warnings were no trick.

Worry quickly turned to panic as many passengers looked to the Celebration crew for answers. “There were folks crying. You could see people were kind of jockeying for the life jackets,” said one man. “One crew member would say one thing and then another crew member would say something else. They had no idea what to do,” a witness to the accident said.

Yet Celebration Cruise Liner representatives insisted no one was in danger and “…everything was handled in an organized and efficient way by ship, corporate and Bahamian personnel.” However, many witnesses contested this account, saying the ship evacuation was far from orchestrated. After hours of delays, the ship finally made it back to port and all passengers disembarked safely. Stranded vacationers were housed in a number of resorts that donated rooms around the island.

A series of high profile collisions, capsizes and power failures of ocean liners in the past decade have highlighted the potential danger these crafts pose to their occupants. From 2012 – 2014 there were over 15 significant ship wrecks involving ocean liners around the world with untold injuries. It is up to the companies and crews that manage these colossal vessels, to ensure all of their boats are safe and seaworthy. Failing to do so puts scores of lives at risk and makes them liable for any damages experienced while on board.
