“Macho Man” Randy Savage Dies in Car Accident in Seminole, Florida
While the name Ralph Poffo may not ring too many bells, Poffo is better known as “Macho Man” Randy Savage who was killed in an auto accident in Seminole, Florida, on Friday, May 20, according to a report in Bloomberg. The 58-year-old flamboyant professional wrestler was driving a 2009 Jeep Wrangler along Park Boulevard west of 113th Street when he lost control of the car, then crossed into oncoming traffic on State Route 694 near St. Petersburg and hit a tree at about 9:25 a.m. He was taken to Largo Medical Center where he passed away. His 56-year-old wife, Lynn Payne, was also in the car and suffered minor injuries. Both were reported to be wearing their seat belts, according to the Florida Highway Patrol report.
Channel 10 in Tampa Bay reports Lynn said that Randy felt ill just before losing control of the vehicle and she had to take control of the steering wheel. An autopsy is planned, though speculation is that he suffered a heart attack.
