Motorcycle Ride for Life Slated for Sept. 14 in Jacksonville
The 7th annual Motorcycle Ride for Life, sponsored by Jacksonville’s MAD DADS, will be held in Jacksonville this Saturday, Sept 14.
The ride will go through some of Jacksonville’s highest crime areas where shooting, stabbings, and drugs are most prevalent. The idea behind the event is to make residents in those areas aware that they have not been forgotten.
“It’s a way to show them [the people that live in the neighborhoods along the route] that somebody cares.” The president of MAD DADS told the Florida Times-Union. He went on to say, “It is critical to let people know in those neighborhoods they aren’t in it alone.”
The ride will begin at Florida State College’s North Campus and will end at the college’s downtown campus — the route will cover some 50 miles. The downtown campus parking lot is just blocks away from one of the most crime-ridden areas of the city. According to the president of MAD DADS, at least 30 to 40 victims of violent crime have died there in the past year.
While there is no registration fee for the ride this year, the organization states that it will accept donations. The Jacksonville Fraternal Order of Police Foundation is footing the $1,600 bill to provide the escort for the ride.
