The trucking industry is big business here in Florida. At any moment, there are thousands of trucks hauling products across The Sunshine State. • About 140,000 people are injured in large truck accidents every year.
• About 4,000 people die in large truck accidents every year.
• Over 90 percent of all large truck accidents lead to at least one death.
• Less than 5 percent of truck drivers are found to be drunk at the time of their accident.
• In every 100 million miles large trucks drive U.S. roads, they cause 60 injuries and 2 deaths on average.
• Almost 75 percent of commercial truck accidents are caused by passenger car drivers (and not the trucker).
• Driver fatigue causes about 30 percent of commercial truck accidents.
• Large trucks weigh 20-30 times more than the average passenger car.
• Speeding large trucks can need up to the length of a football field to come to a complete stop.
