Veteran Benefits

It is important that our veterans are treated with respect and that their financial needs are met. When someone in the military is injured or killed, it is of utmost importance that they are offered support and that their families have access to the resources they need. For many, the process of securing VA benefits can be complicated and stressful. If you have questions, it may prove useful to seek the assistance of an experienced Jacksonville VA benefits lawyer at Farah & Farah who can help you through every step of the application process.

Types of VA Benefits

There are many different types of benefits that are available for military service members and their families. Examples of benefits that are provided by the federal government include:

  • Disability compensation: This is a tax-free monetary benefit that is made available to veterans with disabilities that occurred during active military service. This type of support is available for those who have suffered injuries or have become ill, as long as their injury or illness is related to their service. It is, however, possible to file for disability compensation post-service, as long as the disability resulted from time spent in the armed forces.
  • Dependency and indemnity compensation: This is a tax-free monetary benefit that is paid to the surviving spouse, child or parent of a service member who died while serving. Support should be available whether the victim died while on active duty, while training for active duty or while struggling with disabilities that resulted from active duty.
  • Special monthly compensation: This is a benefit that can be paid to veterans or their surviving family members, in addition to other benefits. It is a higher rate of compensation made available for special circumstances. You can seek special monthly compensation if you need assistance because of a specific disability or if you suffered an amputation injury.
  • Additional options: The VA also provides insurance benefits and housing support to disabled veterans. They even offer adapted housing grants, veterans’ mortgage life insurance, and service-disable veterans’ insurance.

Additional VA Benefits

The VA offers a number of benefits that you may not be aware of. For example, the VA helps veterans and service members become homeowners by providing home loan guaranty benefits. They even help veterans build, repair and adapt homes. The VA also offers life insurance to service members and their families to help provide financial security in case something happens during active duty. There are also pension programs available to help veterans and their families deal with financial challenges.

Rehabilitation and Employment Services

If you have been injured and would like to find employment, the Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment Program can help. Chapter 31 is a program that helps disabled veterans prepare for, find, and secure suitable jobs. When a veteran is unable to work right away, the program can help rehabilitate veterans and give them the skills they need to reintegrate into the work force. There are comprehensive rehabilitation evaluations, counseling, job training, job seeking and post-secondary training available.

Veterans and their families who have trouble getting the benefits to which they are entitled can contact a VA benefits lawyer in Florida at Farah & Farah to obtain more information. Please do not hesitate to call 904-263-4610 for a free consultation.
