Donald Guthrie, Attorney at Law
Attorney Donald Guthrie is a native Floridian, having grown up in our State’s panhandle. A former US Army Infantry Major, Don served with distinction as a Platoon Leader and Executive Officer in the prestigious Berlin Brigade during the height of the Cold War, and as a Company Commander and Battalion Operations Officer with the elite 101st Airborne Division. Upon receiving an early medical discharge for multiple knee injuries, Don returned to the Sunshine State where he earned his law degree from the University of Florida.
Don brings considerable legal experience to his current position combining the significant courtroom skill he honed as an Assistant Public Defender in Duval County and the insider knowledge he gained while working as an insurance defense lawyer. He volunteered as a mediator in the State Attorney’s Fourth Judicial Circuit Diversionary Program, which is designed to provide swift justice without requiring involvement in the conventional court system.
Don is also very active in his community, where he serves as one of the founding members of the Jacksonville National Cemetery Advisory Committee, which helped create a National Veterans Cemetery for North Florida that provides valuable services for our Veterans and their families. He volunteers with the Community Hospice of Northeast Florida and has served as co-chairman and is a current participant with the Veterans History Project First Coast that works alongside the United States Library of Congress to gather and preserve U.S. Veterans’ personal stories for current and future generations.
Don is affiliated with other veteran groups and associations, such as the Disabled American Veterans and volunteers with the Veterans Consortium Pro Bono Program based out of Washington, D.C. – an organization that provides free legal representation to veterans at the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims.
When not practicing law or serving his community, Don enjoys golfing and studying military history with a particular interest in the WWII era.
